New construction of students’ home- Vivekananda Bhawan
Adhering to the motto of ‘service to mankind is service to God’, Ramakrishna Kutir, Almora provides free of charge accommodation, food & study materials including stationery items to the under-privileged graduation & post-graduation students coming from the remote hill regions of Uttarakhand. Background check is run prior to approval for each student. Currently we have four such students, who have been accommodated in a monks’ quarter. Beyond the academic requirements, the students receive training in gardening, music, public speaking and many such activities develop their personality and character. The Ashrama provides a holistic environment with value education to enable the students to become valued citizens of India.Requests from such under-privileged promising students is progressively increasing but, we are not in a position to grant due to insufficient rooms inside Ashrama premises. Hence, construction of one new building dedicated to those students has become essential. Accordingly, we got the plan sanctioned for a two storied building, comprising 4 rooms on each floor and a roof top car parking & garage.

Vivekananda DwarVIVEKANANDA DWAR AT ENTRANCE OF ALMORASwami Vivekananda was always fascinated with natural as well as spiritual beauty of hill town Almora which he himself described as These Mountains are associated with the best memories of our race. If these Himalayas are taken away from the history of religious India, there will be very little left behind".He visited Almora thrice starting from his wandering year in 1890 followed by two subsequent visits in 1897 and 1898 accompanied by Sister Nivedita and other Western and Eastern followers and disciples. On 11th May 1897 when Swamiji, for the second time, reached Almora after his triumphant return from the West, people of Almora gave him an unprecedented welcome as has been described below :"According to the report of the journey published in the Brahmavadin of May 22, 1897 , the Swami halted at Lucknow for one night , and then went to Kathgodam , which he reached on May 9. He was met there by several Almora admirers and Goodwin , who had come to receive him. The party reached Lodea ( near Almora ) on the afternoon of May 11 , and were received by a large crowd waiting to escort the Swami on the final part of his journey. At their request the Swami mounted a horse handsomely trapped , and headed a procession into Almora town.
